howies recently headed out on a mission to shoot their latest cycling and running ranges, I love looking at their photos because they look exactly the same as what my eyes see when I go out riding.

Wales really does have some amazing scenery and riding and running are the perfect ways to take it all in, I would burst into song but that would be mental.

I change my mind about stuff ALL THE TIME. I see this as a very good thing and it’s probably the trait I admire most about myself, there’s nothing sadder than someone who doesn’t evolve and develop as a person, I am constantly searching out new and exciting things.

I know that last summer I was mad for road cycling and now I’m not, in fact I haven’t watched any racing at all this season and I probably won’t bother even watching the mountain stages of the TdF, I’m just not interested anymore. My view of cycling has changed a hell of a lot over the last five years and will continue to change week to week.

As I have started to post about different kinds of bikes and cycling some people have given me shit, they are too stiff and retarded to understand that a person can change what he is into, when I diss road cycling don’t quote something I said last year, it’s pathetic. One thing that has remained a constant through the life of this blog and my life in general is that I like things that are rad no matter what they are.

I will post the rad shit frequently, I will post about the not rad shit too and you will like it or lump it, it’s not my job to entertain you. If you don’t like that the site isn’t 100% fixed gear any more or if I attack something you love it’s just too fucking bad. Here’s what’s up…

Always Different, Always the Same

Well, well, well, look at this little Bobby Dazzler! Brother Cycles have been dropping hints about their new ‘Swift’ frame for a while and the reveal has lived up to all expectations!

This looks like a real beaut of a track frame, it’s nice to see Brother going with something a bit more contemporary, I love the classic steel look obviously (who doesn’t?) but modern track bikes are really doing it for me at the mo.

The Swift will be available to buy in 2 weeks, keep your peepers on the Brother Cycles website!

Here’s some pretty big news! Tokyo Fixed is moving and rebranding, it will now be known as Kinoko Custom Cycles.

It sounds like this shop is going to be quite a bit different from the Tokyo Fixed we all know and love, they have been moving away from the 100% fixed gear thing for quite some time now, this new shop will reflect that.

Brother Cycles has a brand spanking new website, I was always a fan of how simple the old one was and this update keeps the usability with an added splosh of snaz.

The new gallery is easy to browse and you can submit your own Brother build too. There is an awesome new sweatshirt (send me one!!!) and t-shirt as well as a ltd ed reflective iL Soigneur musette, all the current frames and shiny parts to get you rolling in their shop.

As for new hardware Will has said they will be available around mid-May and will include a Reynolds 725 track frame as well as the new ‘Swift’ frameset. I’ll post more on these as soon as I have it.

Most riding videos seem to make me cringe these days, the fun of bombing around the streets and ripping skids on a fixed gear is missing. Now people want to ride up a big hill on an inappropriate bike looking like they have shit themselves. It’s all too conceptual for my liking, it’s about making yourself out to be something you’re not.

From this single image I can tell that this video from Donhou is going to be different. I’m looking forward to it.

BIGxTOP has a new website and to me it really feels like the brand has changed over night.

What was a one man operation making little cycling accessories has matured very quickly into a one man operation making world class bags that are suitable for cycling but go far beyond that and fit perfectly into the more general ‘outdoor’ market which is so cool.

You guys know that I’m a big fan of BIGxTOP, I’ve said it enough times but with this new site I think Jordan’s work is going to start to get a lot of attention, the public image now matches the quality of the products.

Since it went live a couple of days ago Jordan has been inundated with orders for the new Daysack which is great. If you want one you better place your order quick or you may find yourself at the back of a very long waiting list!

Bristol has a booming ‘urban cycling’ scene, loads of the dudes who were riding fixed a few years ago are now also riding road bikes, hitting track and trails and just generally riding for the love of it which is awesome.

DAS RAD KLUB is a new brand that has been set up to represent and cater for all those people…

“Hailing from Bristol, the epicentre of south west cycling is DAS RAD KLUB. A brand, a movement, in the loosest possible way a cycling ‘club’.

DAS RAD KLUB is all about having fun on bikes. We want riders to feel like they’re part of something, whatever & wherever they ride. While we share photos from our adventures here in Bristol & beyond, we want our customers to share their photos with us, using the modern wonders of the internet & social networking. We can’t wait to hear from the riders that purchase our products & take them wherever their 2 wheels lead them.

After months of discussion & planning between all of the bike rides, we’re pleased to reveal our ‘Prologue’ release, essentially the appetiser before the main course arrives in the coming months. We’re starting with 2 things cyclists can’t live without – t-shirts & water bottles. Our plan is to create an entire collection of apparel & accessories that represents everything we enjoy. To achieve this we’ll be working with some of the biggest brands around to put our twist on the highest quality, tried & tested kit possible.”

Tim Wilkey, the head honcho, was kind enough to answer a few questions that did a little deeper into DAS RAD KLUB.

Who’s involved?
Me, myself & a few good friends. I’m the one with the vision & the ideas, the friends are the ones that help make it happen. I could no way do everything I want to do on my own so I’ve called upon a couple of close friends to help me out with the things I’m no good at (most things then!). Most important of all, we all ride bikes, a lot.

What’s your background in cycling?
I’ve been riding bikes longer than I care to remember, from 24″ wheel jump bikes all the way through to cyclocross, I’ve pretty much had a shot at it all. When I’m not riding I love to hang out with friends & have a good time, usually involving music & food. I wanted to create a brand that embraces all of these things, and hopefully DAS RAD KLUB can achieve this.

Where does the name come from?
Finding the right name took a while, believe me. But the main reasons behind it are the fact that Germany is a great country to visit, and the community I’m wanting to create is much like a club, just without the rules & regulations that come with a physical cycling club.

What are your plans for the brand?
The aim is to get some good looking kit out there to riders that want exactly that, without it costing the earth. We’re talking technical cycling garments as well as casual apparel, our goal is to provide something for every part of the cyclist’s wardrobe, whatever & wherever they ride. Simple is the aim of the game, but most definitely not boring.

Is everything made in the UK?
We’ve not gone for UK made products, perhaps that’s something we’ll be able to do in the future, but right now we’ve chosen manufacturers from various parts of the world for various reasons. Even our stickers come from overseas!

Anything else?
The name of the game is adventures, we want to see those photos & hear those stories from riders who purchase from us. We don’t want to be a brand that sells stuff & doesn’t listen to what you get up to once you have parted with your cash. We want to know exactly what you’ve done & where you’ve been with your purchases.
I’d like to thank everyone that’s taken part in the brand so far (you know who you are) and in advanced every body who buys something from us. I recently summed up the brand in a few words: “I don’t know what I’m doing, I just want to have fun”.
