Fixedgearlondon at Le Tour de France

Andy from Fixedgearlondon has just got back from a week following Le Tour de France, I enjoyed reading about his trip so much I’ve decided to do this follow up post.
He had planned to ride part of some of the mountain stages fixed and I will admit that when I heard he’d had to resort to a road bike I did chuckle (there aren’t any photos of hell freezing over though!). He describes his experience…
“Imagine Groundhog day, but you are on a road bike riding up a mountain. Every corner/switchback looks the same and you feel like you are having Déjà vu… uphill for 22km. This was the worst feeling for me, it took all of the enjoyment out of the whole experience.”
Everything he hated about climbing is everything I love, getting into a rhythm and just going and going and going and pushing and feeling the lactic acid burning and the salty sweat in your eyes burning and the unrelenting pain.

He also talks about the train and all the free tat up for grabs which sounds amazing but I’d probably give most of it to the kids like he did too.
Pop over to Fixedgearlondon to read his full post which is just a teaser for a longer article which will be in the next issue of Fixed.
