Here’s a nice documentary I found via another blog a few days back, can’t remember where though. It charts a short period of time when Graeme Obree and Chris Boardman were locking horns and fighting for titles.
Boardman comes across as a bit of a dickhead, as much as he tries to appear friendly and sportsmanlike it’s quite clear that he thought Obree was a total weirdo. In reality Graeme Obree was, and still is, a cycling maverick capable of incredible achievements without any of the technological bells and whistles used by his contemporaries.
Graeme Obree’s life story of severe depression, suicide attempts, home-made bikes and his recent ‘coming out’ at such a mature age is far more interesting than Boardman’s Halfords exclusive bike brand deal.
