Brakeless Article in the Guardian

guardian fixed gear

There is an article in The Guardian today about riding brakeless, personally I just think people should mind their own business and let us ride however the hell we feel like it. Read the whole article here, it also links out to a NY Times article from 1987 on the same subject.

Not a bad article – at least it’s written by someone that rides and isn’t the usual “Panic! Can you believe there are idiots without brakes infecting our beautiful streets and killing our children!” shit that comes out (see http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/article6936280.ece)

As a rule I like the Guardian newspaper, and yeah at least the artical was written by a fixie rider. I liked the definition of how you slow down on a fixie ‘resisting the motion of the pedals’. I work at a secondary school and have been trying to justify my bikes minimalism for years, without being able to form a good explaination,I will use that from now on. The law cocerning bikes is woolly. I had a head-on collision with a car and was breathalised on the spot and my fugi taken away to be photograghed no one metioned the brakes(or lack of).
