Cardiff Fast Food Alleycat Report

fast food alleycat race cardiff spoke card

I raced in Cardiff’s first ever alleycat on the weekend, I was tremendous. Well, as tremendous as coming 10th out of 23 can be at least, haha. For a city that had absolutely no cohesive scene just over a month ago this race was killer, you’d have thought that they’d all known each other for years and had been planning this for a long long time.

Very few people had any idea where they were going so there were little groups of riders kinda playing follow the leader and taking it in turns to lead their individual pack. It’s really cool how a group of people that have never met before can all work as a team so well, especially when there are big prizes up for grabs! As I said at the start I was absolutely killing it, almost guaranteed a first place (lol), then I got stuck behind a police car and left at the lights by the rest of my so-called teammates. As soon as they were out of sight I was completely lost but soon managed to latch on to Osian who sort of knew where he was going and we found our way to the last checkpoint about 20 seconds behind who was going to become my arch nemesis: Evs.

The distance between the checkpoint and the finish line was not really far, a couple of miles maybe, unfortunately he was enough ahead that I just couldn’t bridge the gap, then my opportunity came, there was a fork in the road, Evs went to the right, knowing that I couldn’t catch him my only chance was to go left which is exactly what I did. Luckily it appears that going left must have been marginally shorter because as I came around the corner to the finish line I was about 2 seconds in front of him, I was so happy it almost brought a tear to my Japs eye. I may have come 10th which is pretty wack but I won my own personal little race at the end so it’s all good. Whoop!

Well done to Paul and Tim for putting on a blinder of a race with a really nice course. Head over to the new Fixed Gear Cardiff blog to read their report, see some photos and watch a video.
